Bryan Bachner
Co-chair at Amcham China Sports CommitteeBryan Bachner is Co-Chair of the Sports Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee. He serves as Investment Director for China Everbright Limited in the Private Equity (TMT) platform (formerly General Counsel of the PERE platform). He also serves as Director of the Beijing Institute of Technology Football Club, a professional team in League 2 of the China Football Association and the first foreign owned/managed sports club in China. He played professional basketball in Hong Kong for over ten years where he represented HK three times in the Asian Basketball Federation Club Championship. Bryan has a PhD from Wuhan University in intellectual property rights.
Joan Laporta
President (2003-10) at FC BarcelonaJoan Laporta is a Catalan lawyer and former president of FC Barcelona from 2003 to 2010. Laporta runs his own firm, Laporta & Arbós, a combined practice of lawyers and economists, made up of professionals with a background in the business world and the civil service, whose mission is to provide enterprises with a truly integrated service. Their expertise in sports law and his experience as president of FC Barcelona has recently led the firm to specialize, among other areas, in sports management advice and sports law.
Born in Barcelona in 1962, Laporta has a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona; a Masters in Corporate Law and Tax Experts at the Institute for Advanced Studies Abat Oliba of Barcelona; a Diploma in the course of the Arbitration Law of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a Diploma course in Corporate Law by Association of Lawyers of Barcelona.
He is founder and owner of the firm Laporta & Arbós Advocats Associates; referee of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris; member of Executive Committee of the Foundation Lluch and patron of the Johan Cruyff Welfare Foundation.
In 2003 a new generation of young and dynamic directors came to FC Barcelona and generated a real shake‐up. They popularized the expression "virtuous circle", which aimed to strengthen the Club economically and socially and prepare the ground for a winning team that would nurture its social dimension. A number of innovative measures were set up, such as a genuine style of playing football, development of the FCB Academy, promotion of a Catalan and global FCB identity, promotion and development of FC Barcelona Foundation reaching a global alliance with UNICEF and setting up an international network of solidarity centers, approving modern club operational procedures, policies, and standards, holding Board meetings in different parts of Catalonia while reinforcing communication with the fans through the revitalization of the Barça magazine and a determined drive to promote the Club's TV station, Barça TV.
During his seven years as President, FC Barcelona won the World Club Cup, two European Cups, the European Super Cup, four La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups and three Catalonia Cups. In the economic and social areas the annual budget increased from €123 million to €445 million whilst membership rose from 106,135 to 173,701.
The 2006-2007 seasons started with the signing of the agreement with UNICEF, in which the Club committed itself to collaborate economically and in addition wear the UNICEF logo on the shirts of the football team. This was an unprecedented move designed to strengthen the strategy of converting Barcelona into more than a club throughout the world.
During his mandate as President of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta has been President of FC Barcelona Foundation; Founder and Vice-President of European Clubs Association; Member of Clubs Committee of FIFA; Member of Professional Strategy Council of UEFA; Member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Spanish Football Federation; Vice-President of the Catalan Football Federation.
After serving as Barça President, Laporta was a Member of Parliament of Catalonia for legislation 2010-2012 and at the same time has been City Councilor of the City Council of Barcelona for the legislation 2011-2015. Laporta has worked as lawyer for 29 years and is a board member and shareholder of several companies.
Shao Shengyi
Lead Sports Anchor at CCTVShao Shengyi (邵圣懿), is frontline TV anchor for CCTV's Sports coverage, having hosted live at both the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2018 World Cup.
Born in 1982 in Wuxi in Jiangsu Province, Shao Shengyi is a sports anchor for China’s national broadcaster, CCTV. He graduated from the Communications University of China and obtained a postgraduate degree from Peking University.
In 2005, he took part in the national sports host selection contest of CCTV “Who will explain the Beijing Olympics” and won the third place in the national finals. He joined CCTV soon afterwards. In 2007, he served as a commentator for the “1st Anniversary of the Countdown to the Olympics”. In 2008, he was selected as the reporters to cover China’s National Team at the Olympics. In 2010, he was the host of CCTV-5’s World Cup special program "Grand Feast". In 2012, he became host of the CCTV-5 sports news program "Sports World". In 2014, he was the host of the night edition of the CCTV-5 World Cup special program "I Love the World Cup".
